Sr. Edna serves as a pharmaceutical technician at St. Benedict Ndanda Referral Hospital in the Mtwara region of Tanzania. She and her 8 coworkers dispense medication for the entire hospital, an estimated 90-200 patients per day.

Girls' High School in Lesotho Thrives Under Sister's Stewardship

Oct 26, 2020: [Lesotho] “[SLDI] has helped me a great deal because I couldn't stand in front of different stakeholders and, you know, address them on issues. ASEC gave me the courage and stance to say, ‘Yeah this is what has to be done.’ For that, I’m grateful.”

Thanks to the Dominican Sisters, Holy Trinity Girls Secondary School is a place where students can live comfortable and flourish in their studies. But it wasn't always this way.

SLDI & HESA participant Sr. Teopista is the supervisor of a Ugandan bread bakery, supplying 70-80 loaves of bread per day to schools, hotels, supermarkets and the local community. During an site visit to the bakery, she gave ASEC staff a tour of the bakery and explained the bread-making process (June, 2019).

Learning To Lead

Sep 28, 2020: [Kenya, Nigeria, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia] Through education, Catholic sisters are becoming some of the top leaders bringing positive changes throughout Africa.

Sr. Rita was awarded an ASEC Two-Year Scholarship to attend the Kasama College of Education to pursue her diploma in Primary Education. Upon graduating, she felt well prepared to teach Zambian children at the primary school level.

Aug 17, 2020: [Lesotho] SLDI alumna Sr. Anacletta implements a program to increase access to HIV/AIDS services and reduce the number of new HIV/AIDS cases among adolescent girls and young women in Lesotho.

ASEC staff visited Sr. Harriet at Nkozi Hospital in June, 2019. Since then, she's been working towards improving healthcare for the vulnerable and organizing events to raise funds for a much needed Accident, Emergency and Trauma Center.

Jul 24, 2020: [Nigeria] Sr. Josemaria is using her SLDI education to improve healthcare services and strengthen the resource mobilization skills of several congregations in Nigeria.

Sr. Mary Sarah (right) graduated from the University of Kisubi in Uganda through ASEC's Higher Education for Sisters in Africa (HESA) program. She received her Bachelor’s in Business Administration and is now using the skills she learned to strengthen the vitality of her congregation.
