It is clear therefore, that the goal of ASEC is indeed being pursued in Africa and Malawi in particular, thanks to our donors.

From theory to practice
Malawi ASEC alumnae assumes a key leadership position

Sr. Maria Claire Kapachika a graduate of 2015 cohort (administration) has been chosen as the chairperson of the Association of Women Religious Institutes in Malawi (AWRIM) following the 57th plenary session which was held from 31st January to 6th February.

The association of Religious Women Institutes in Malawi has a membership of more than thirty institutes working in Malawi, both indigenous and international congregations. The association conducts its plenary meetings annually but the term of office for its leadership is renewable.

Results of the 2017 elections have brought pride to ASEC office in Malawi and beyond as the two top positions have been occupied by 2015 ASEC graduates.

Sr. Mary Claire Kapachika (Carmelite Sisters) and Sr. Mary Chimalizeni (Daughters of Wisdom) are now in the leading positions as chairperson and vice chair person respectively. The two sisters have shown competency in leadership skills in their respective congregations and among all the congregations in Malawi.  ASEC is indeed bearing visible fruits in Malawi as echoed by the Bishop Chair for Religious in Malawi.

In His statement during the opening Mass of the plenary, Bishop Chair for the Religious in Malawi His Lordship Bishop George DesmondTambala OCD indicated that currently sisters have displayed competence in their ministries as a result of the various skills gained through workshops and school which He accorded to ASEC. He further, encouraged sisters to pursue higher education as tool to fight the challenges Malawi is facing due to social cultural changes affecting the country.

It is clear therefore, that the goal of ASEC is indeed being pursued in Africa and Malawi in particular, thanks to our donors. Congratulations SRs Marie Claire Kapachika and Mary Chimalizeni.
